Berkadia was founded in 2009 by its partners, Berkshire Hathaway and Jefferies Financial Group (formally Leucadia). Despite an uncertain future and a modest number of employees, the company remained confident in its determination and innovative spirit. Since then, Berkadia has achieved several significant milestones:
- Grew from a small servicing portfolio and a few mortgage bankers to a full-service capital markets platform, with a servicing portfolio exceeding $400 billion.
- Ranked as the #1 Freddie Mac Optigo and Conventional lender since 2021 and the #2 Fannie Mae lender and #1 HUD lender by volume in 2023. In 2023 overall, Berkadia was recognized as the #1 Multifamily lender by volume by the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA).
