New York, New York – October 9, 2025 – Berkadia, a distinguished leader in the commercial real estate sector, announced today that the Seniors Housing & Healthcare platform, through a financing arrangement with a large financial institution, has more than doubled the capital available for bridge-to-permanent financing for seniors housing communities (including memory care) and nursing homes.
SVP – Head of FHA & Seniors Housing Finance, Steve Ervin, SVP – Capital Markets, Michael Cale, and SVP – Capital Markets, Seniors, Lisa Burgess, who was hired by Berkadia in May 2024 to augment the capital available for bridge loan solutions for seniors housing and care, collaborated to create this excellent opportunity to serve Berkadia’s clients. The current operating environment as well as HUD processing timelines have further complicated seniors housing and nursing home transactions, resulting in many borrowers needing a bridge loan before executing on permanent financing. The newly expanded capital available for bridge loans enhances Berkadia’s comprehensive suite of products to borrowers which includes bridge loans, GSE, HUD, debt brokerage, and investment sales.
“There is significant demand for bridge financing products in the seniors housing and healthcare space,” said Burgess. “The increased capital available for bridge loans is a crucial addition to our expanding range of capital products, which we have been developing over the past several years, and it will be a tremendous asset to our clients.”
Berkadia was recognized as the #1 GSE and HUD lender for seniors housing by total volume on a combined basis in 2024 and closed approximately $2.6 billion in loan volume across all products.
