Richard Bendit is Executive Vice President – Chief Legal Officer and a member of Berkadia’s Management Committee. In this role, Mr. Bendit is ultimately responsible for all Berkadia’s legal and compliance matters and brings deep expertise, trusted leadership, and a collaborative approach to help drive the company’s success across all business units.
Mr. Bendit joined Berkadia in September 2011 and prior to his current role, served as General Counsel for the company.
Mr. Bendit has over 40 years of commercial real estate, finance and international business experience. Prior to joining Berkadia, he held both legal and business positions in the commercial real estate and finance industries. He was a partner in the Finance and Real Estate Group of Dechert LLP and served as General Counsel for a registered investment advisor with more than $3 billion of commercial real estate, debt-related assets under management. On the business side, Mr. Bendit worked as a real estate consultant for a leading commercial tenant brokerage firm in Greater Philadelphia, and prior to attending law school, was a Senior Commercial Banking Relationship Officer at First Fidelity Bank (now a part of Wells Fargo), managing all of the bank’s lending and deposit relationships in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Richard has lectured for local and national legal and business associations and published articles on topics such as leasing, commercial mortgage finance and bankruptcy issues impacting commercial real estate lending.
