 The Opportunity 

The AVP – Human Resources is responsible for leading Core HR and Employee Relations throughout the company’s India operations, maintaining full accountability for intake, investigation, interpretation, and recommendations. They will partner with the US HR and Business Partner teams, People Managers, and other stakeholders (including Risk, Compensation & Benefits, Legal) throughout the company to drive effective resolutions, ensure compliance, and mitigate risk. The AVP is accountable for establishing and adhering to processes throughout the employee lifecycle, including maintenance of employee information within the company’s HRIS.

In this role, individuals will be required to fulfil the responsibilities below:

HR Operations

 

  • Team Management: Oversee and develop the core HR team, including Specialists, Generalists, and Assistant Managers.
  • Employee Lifecycle Management: Ensure team is following processes and procedures to accurately and timely process employee changes (hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations).
  • Process Excellence: Establish, implement, and monitor SOPs and SLAs to drive operational efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Ensure compliance with internal policies and statutory requirements, including maintenance of job descriptions, personnel files, etc.
  • Initiatives: Oversee HR-related initiatives such as merit and bonus cycles, year-end discussions, and other cyclical HR programs
  • Disclosures: Manage, adjudicate, and track employee disclosures related to conflicts of interest, employment of relatives, background checks, and other risk-related processes in partnership with relevant stakeholders.

 

Employee Relations

 

  • Grievance Management: Oversee and support the handling of grievances, concerns, and conflicts to ensure fair, timely, and consistent resolutions.
  • Investigations: Conduct investigations into complaints, policy violations, and workplace claims, using objective judgment to provide recommendations.
  • HR Advisory: Offer guidance to managers and HR partners on HR policies, procedures, and HR best practices.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain thorough, accurate, and legally compliant records of ER cases, decisions, and corrective actions.
  • Policy Management: Ensure HR policies are reviewed and updated consistently, maintaining legal compliance and alignment with Berkadia’s local and global standards. Effectively communicate policy changes across the organization.
  • Legal Awareness: Stay informed of changes in Indian employment laws and regulations; partner with Legal/Risk as needed to ensure compliance and mitigate organizational risk.

 

 Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Degree or certification in Human Resources preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience. 8+ years of experience focused within Employee Relations, preferably within a multinational or matrixed environment.

Skills & Competencies  

  • Strong proficiency with HRIS platforms; Workday experience preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of Indian employment laws, regulations and HR best practices.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with utmost discretion and sound judgement.
  • Excellent problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills with a balanced, objective approach.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to influence and build trust with senior leaders, both locally, and overseas (United States preferred).
